Emerald Martial Arts has trained over 15,000 students since Master Shiv Raj Gharti began his training journey in 2004. What started as one man’s personal mission — coaching students through school partnerships and one-on-one training — became a formal academy in 2012, when Emerald Martial Arts was established with headquarters in Panchkula. Today, across two Tricity locations, we carry forward that same legacy, with partnerships across 25+ schools and colleges in the region and neighbouring states.

Master Shiv Raj Gharti moved to Chandigarh in 1998 and began training in martial arts a year later, in 1999 — inspired, like so many of his generation, by the life and philosophy of Bruce Lee. Coming from a humble family background, Shiv earned his own education while pursuing his training, and that early determination shaped everything that followed.
He excelled quickly, earning recognition from mentors, peers, and juniors alike. By the age of 20, his love for the sport had turned into a mission: to spread awareness of martial arts and help build a healthier India — one student at a time. In 2004, he began working directly with schools, with a clear goal in mind — producing national-level athletes from the Tricity region. By 2007, he was training students independently, laying the groundwork for what would come next.
In 2012, that groundwork became an institution. Shiv, alongside his wife and co-founder Kavita Rai, established Emerald Martial Arts’ headquarters in Panchkula — a name chosen to represent their shared dream of keeping the spirit of martial arts evergreen, for every generation that walks through the door.
In the years since, Shiv has personally helped train close to 15,000 students, partnered with 25+ schools across the region, and mentored young martial artists into masters who now run academies of their own. Today, he leads Emerald’s two academies across the Tricity, continuing the same mission he started with back in 1999 — one student, one belt, one champion at a time.
